Resting on God’s Promises

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 NLT

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 NLT

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe. Psalms 4:8 NLT

A quiet and peaceful place to rest, the ferns sway in the breeze and the creek down below gurgles around
rocks and bends.

Last night I had some trouble sleeping because my mind was thinking about so many different things. Do you ever have worries or problems or fears that keep you from resting or sleeping?

Our verses for today are promises that God and Jesus give us in the Bible. All of these relate to rest and peace. When we have fears, worries, troubles, or “burdens”, Jesus promises that if we bring them to Him, then He will give us rest. God also promises to give us peace, that calm feeling that everything is good and safe. Our last verse is by King David. He says that he can rest and sleep in peace because he knows that the Lord is protecting him and keeping him safe.

When I couldn’t sleep, I talked to Jesus in prayer. I told Him what was bothering me and that I was tired. I took my worries to Him and asked Him to take my worries away. And do you know what happened? He did, it felt like a weight had lifted. I felt peaceful and safe, and I slept. I trusted that Jesus would keep His promise to me and He did.

Talk to your parents about what keeps you awake. And ask them what keeps them awake. How do they handle their troubles so they can rest? How can you handle your problems? By remembering the promises of God and Jesus. Trust in those promises and give your burdens to Jesus and accept God’s peace and Jesus’ rest.

There are many more promises for us in the Bible. One of my favorites is Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10. God is with us always and is ready to help us and replace our worries with His love and care.

This week find a few more of God’s and Jesus’ promises to us in the Bible. Your parents can help you. Pick a favorite one and memorize it so that you can rest knowing that God and Jesus will take care of you! You can even put it on paper with a picture and put it up where you can see it.

Blessings and peace as you rest on the promises of God and Jesus!
