Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6 NLT
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. John 1:1-4 NLT
“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.” John 17:17
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. 1 John 5:12 NLT

The Way:
All of our verses today are from the gospel of John. Our first verse is spoken by Jesus to His disciples after they had celebrated the Passover in the upper room. Jesus also told them that He would be going away to the Father (which would be after his death on the cross for all of us). But the disciples just thought He was leaving them and Thomas wanted to know the way to go to follow Him. Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. Have you ever heard someone pray and the end with “in Jesus’ name. Amen.” Jesus is the only way we can come close to God.
The Truth:
Jesus also said He is “the truth.” Truth is what is real, not something imagined or made up. God’s word is truth. Jesus is truth because He is God made flesh. Jesus taught and spoke the truth about God. Jesus prayed for His disciples in our third verse. He asked God to “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.” To be holy is to be chosen for a special purpose. The disciples’ purpose was to tell others about Jesus and God. And when we believe the truth of God’s word and Jesus, that can be our purpose, too!
The Life:
Jesus said He is the life. In our second verse, John calls Jesus “the Word” and he tells us that like God, Jesus has always existed with God. And that all God created was given life through Jesus, and that Jesus brought light to everyone. “The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.” Jesus gives life and light to all who believe in Him and all that He has done for us. He died on a cross to offer us forgiveness of sins and life everlasting. One day we will live forever in heaven with God and Jesus.
This week talk with your parents about Jesus and “the way, the truth, and the life” of Jesus and how can we share His truth with others.
Blessings and joy as you come to God through the truth and life of Jesus!
