And the angel said to them [the shepherds], “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest.” Luke 2:10-11, 13-14
When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. Luke 2:15-17

The first week in December we talked about how God’s people had been “waiting” for the Messiah, for Jesus, for a very long time. The next week we looked at some of the “wonders” of Jesus’ birth. Last week we saw some of the “witnesses” that talked about the great things God had done. This week we are celebrating the birth of Jesus with “worship.” Worship is how we show God we love and honor Him with our whole heart through our actions, words, and thoughts.
After the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, an angel appeared to shepherds in nearby fields. The angel told them the good news, that the Christ, the chosen One, God’s Son, our Savior, had been born. And then the angel was joined by other angels, too many to count, and they all praised and worshiped God, giving Him the glory for Jesus being born to save us.
The shepherds went and found Jesus, just as the angel had said. And they worshipped Him, too!
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense, and myrrh. Matthew 2:1-2,11
Our next verses are about the wise men finding Jesus by following a star. The wise men knew that Jesus was born to be the King. The wise men did not visit the baby Jesus, by the time they found Jesus, he was a young boy. But like the angels and the shepherds, they worshipped Jesus, God’s Son. They bowed down and gave Him gifts.
This week talk with your parents about how you and your family worship God and Jesus; with songs, with prayers, by showing kindness and love to others, and by doing the things we know would please God and Jesus.
Merry Christmas as you celebrate the birth of Jesus and worship Him!
