Equipped for Good Works

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. 2 Timothy:16 ESV

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Psalm 119:103 ESV

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105 ESV

Let my soul live and praise you, and let your rules help me. Psalm 119:175 ESV

This is the Bible my Grandparents gave to me for Christmas over 50 years ago.

Our verses for today tell us about God’s Word, the Bible, and how important it is to our lives and in our walk with the Lord. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible with 176 verses. And the Psalms is the longest book in the Bible with 150 chapters.

Paul tells Timothy, and us, in 2 Timothy that all scripture, the whole Bible has been “breathed out by God.” The Bible is a collection of God’s words to each one of us. God’s words are “sweeter than honey” and “a lamp to my feet” and “a light to my path.” And our response to God’s amazing words is praise!

I’m going to share 5 of my favorite Bible verses, though it is hard to pick only 5!

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.  Deuteronomy 31:6

This week I would love for you to share one or more of your favorite Bible verses. The words of God that speak to your heart, that equip you to follow God’s purpose for your life.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we let God’s words in the Bible speak to each of us.

Blessings and hope, joy and praise as we equip ourselves with God’s words!

  1. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds:) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

  2. Peggy… Peggy. This spoke to my haggard and battered soul this morning. The Lord knows that I needed a little more oil in my lamp today. Thank you for sharing these verses.

  3. Romans 8:28 always stood out for me: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” My world-weary eyes see little evidence of this nowadays, to be honest, but this verse always gave me a bit of hope, you know?
