Wait for God

“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 ESV

Sometimes waiting for something is hard. No one likes to wait, not even moms and dads! But a lot of times we have to wait. We wait in line at the grocery store, at school, at the doctor’s office, and even in the drive through at McDonald’s. Sometimes people have to wait on us because we aren’t ready to go when everyone else is. Waiting is just a part of everyone’s life.

But God has a plan for our lives. The Bible tells us, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 ESV Many times we have to wait for God’s plan for us to unfold.  As we live our lives, God is at work making sure that “all things work together for good” for us! And sometimes that means God’s plan may not be the same plan we have, and we will have to wait on God’s better plan.

David wants a big boy bike,

He’s too big to still ride his trike!

David prays for a bike like Jimmy’s, it’s so great!

But his Dad says, “Not yet, son, you’ll have to wait.

That bike you want to get is just too tall.”

Dad wants David to be safe and not to fall.

A few days later, Dad brings David a special gift.

But it’s not the “right” bike and David is miffed!

He stomps over to Jimmy’s house to tell his tale.

Jimmy says, “Hop on my bike, David, and let it sail!”

David can’t get up on the bike, it’s the wrong height!

He runs home and says, “Dad, I’m sorry! You were right!”

He jumps on his brand new bike that is his perfect size,

And thanks Dad, and God, for being so very wise!

God, and our parents with God’s help, always try to do what’s best for us. This week think of a time when you didn’t get something you wanted or didn’t get to go somewhere you wanted, but it really worked out for the best. Your parents can help you remember a time if you can’t think of one.

Blessings and strength as you wait and soar like an eagle!
