Go and Make Disciples

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 ESV

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.  Mark 16:15-16 ESV

The earth is full of countries and peoples who have not heard the good news of Jesus.

For much of the past week we have been having a missionary conference at our small church. We invite missionaries who are currently working somewhere or those ready to go into the mission field, to come and present their work so that we can offer them some monthly support for their work. We already support several missionaries around the world!

This week one young woman was headed to an orphanage in Zimbabwe to share the gospel with children and adults. She had already learned two of the many common languages in that area! Another was a man, his wife and family who spread the gospel in the Philippines.

Our hope is that if we can’t “go” ourselves into the mission field we can at least “send” others by  faithfully supporting those who do go. Each missionary we support, we “send” to make disciples as Jesus has commanded.

But I want to encourage all of us, me included, that even though we may not be able to go to a foreign mission field, we can still “go and make disciples” as Jesus commanded. We can share the gospel in our neighborhood, our cities, our towns. We can begin by helping a neighbor, serving in a food bank, comforting someone who is grieving, inviting someone to come to church with us, or even sharing our testimony. We, too, can be the “hands and feet.” As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Romans 10:15b

This week let’s all shine the light of Jesus and share the good news of salvation with someone. Let each of us “go” and make disciples in our own nation!

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we follow the command of Jesus to “go and make disciples.” But even if we can’t go, we can still send.

Blessings and light, joy and peace!
