But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8 ESV
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. . 2 Corinthians 4:7 ESV

You know that God not only created the whole world and everything in it, but He also created you and me and each person. The prophet Isaiah in the Old Testament said that God creating a person was like a potter shaping clay into a pot. A potter takes a lump of clay and uses his hands to shape it into a pot, or a vase, or a plate. Each one of us is the amazing work of God’s hands!
People in Bible times used clay pots for storing water, food, oil, and even scrolls. But clay pots could be easily broken because they were just baked clay.
In the New Testament, Paul uses the same idea as Isaiah. Paul says that each of us is a “jar of clay.” Paul is saying that people are simple and easily broken like clay pots. But when we know God and Jesus and belong to Them, we have inside of us a wonderful treasure!
God puts His treasure inside of us, and that treasure is His love and the good news about Jesus. It is God’s light and new life when we believe in Jesus and are saved. God puts His treasure inside of us, jars of clay, so that everyone will know that the power is from God and not us.
And the really great thing is you can share this treasure with friends and others you know. When you show love and kindness to others, or help someone, or even tell them about Jesus, you are shining God’s love and light to them.
This week talk with your parents about how you can share the treasure inside of you with others. How can you shine God’s love and light and hope even though we are “jars of clay?”
Blessings and joy as you share your treasure with others!
