The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22-23a ESV

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19 ESV

Happy New Year! We have started a whole new year, 2025. A lot of people use the beginning of the new year to make a resolution. A resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something. For example, someone might decide to be kinder to others, or to not get in trouble at school. Each person would work on their resolution throughout the new year. Did you or your parents make any new year’s resolutions?

All of our verses today have the word new. If we believe in Jesus and are saved, we have already become a “new creation.” Instead of being like we used to be, we are new and become more like Jesus. We love and help others. We honor our parents. We are kind.

In our second verse we are reminded that God’s love for us never ends and that His mercy is new every day. So, no matter how badly we messed up yesterday, we get to start each day new with our loving God!

In our third verse God says that He is doing a new thing for us. He will make a way for us when we aren’t sure where we are going or when things are tough (like in a dry desert) God will provide for us (give a river of water).

You can become new by treating everyone just like Jesus would treat them, with love and kindness.

Becoming New!

I could make a New Year’s resolution to…

Spend more time reading God’s word,

Listening to Jesus, my shepherd.

Being kinder to the people in my life,

Listening to my parents, avoiding strife.

Concentrating on my work at school,

Spending less time playing the fool.

Choosing to be better and becoming new,

Trying to be like Jesus in all that I do.
