Choose Joy, Be Unsinkable!

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. Habakkuk 3:17-18 ESV

When troubles and storms come, we can still choose to have joy because our God is with us and will help us get through our troubles and storms.

In the verse above, the prophet Habakkuk is rejoicing in the Lord even though there is not much to be thankful or joyful about, no fruit on the trees or vines, no crops or food, and no animals. Habakkuk could have complained and been sad or even angry. But he chose to be joyful because the Lord is always good. He is our Savior, our friend, our comforter, our God. Even when things happen that seem bad all around us, God is always with us.

Imagine one of those long noodle floats in a pool. You can push it underwater, but when you let go, it pops right back up, it’s “unsinkable”. Habakkuk is reminding all of us that even when we have troubles, we can still be joyful. We can choose to look at the good things in our lives, things that God gives us, and not sink under our flood of troubles. We can be “unsinkable”!

Jesus tells us, I have said these things to you, that in me your may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation [trouble]. We all have trouble. But we can choose joy. We have to choose to look to Jesus and be “unsinkable”.

Choose Joy, Be Unsinkable!

When someone calls you a mean name, remember Jesus calls you, His beloved child.

When you fail at a task, remember God promises that He has a good plan for your life.

When money is tight and you don’t get your toy, remember that Jesus is the greatest gift you could ever get.

When you are worried because mom and dad are arguing, remember that Jesus calms the seas and gives you peace.

When troubles come like you know they will, remember that Father God and Jesus are your strength and protection.

Rise above your troubles and choose joy, be unsinkable!

This week, talk with your parents about how you can choose joy even when faced with troubles or a tough situation. Decide how you can be “unsinkable”. Share an issue you are having at school or in your neighborhood or just by yourself. How can you find the joy in God and Jesus. How can you share with others so they can float with you above life’s troubles?

Blessings as you choose joy and remain unsinkable!

  1. There is a boldness to a faith that can cry out, though you slay me, yet will I trust you. The scriptures encourages an unsinkable faith..a defiant faith..a resilient faith,…an unsinkable faith it comes with experiences. And it’s not exclusive to an aged faith. The little Jewish girl who testified to Namaan of the power of Jehovah… Samuel as a youth responding to the voice of God… And the boy Jesus growing in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and Man, are examples of faith in action..bold and unsinkable…trusting.

    Great Post, Peggy. 🙏🙏
