For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light…and try to discern what is pleasing to God. Ephesians 5:8,10 ESV

So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him; bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:10 ESV

And thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe. Hebrews 12:28b ESV

When I was a kid, I wanted people to like me. I tried to do things I knew my parents wanted me to do, like clean my room and help my baby brothers. And then in school I tried to please (do things or say things) that would make my teachers and my friends like me. We all want to be liked and feel special.

But did you know that you can do things, even as a kid, to please God? God already knows how special you are because He created you! He loves you! We can all do things that please God.

But first and most important is that you please God by simply having faith in God, believing that He is God and loves you and sent His Son, Jesus, to save you. And by trusting Him to take care of you. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6 ESV

Our verses tell us that we can also walk as His children and shine His light to others we meet. We can bear good fruit by loving and helping others. We can learn more about God by reading our Bible and going to church. We can also please God by singing praise songs and talking with Him, praying. All of these actions are pleasing to God.

We can also please God by obeying what God has told us to do. For example, one of God’s commands is to “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12 ESV When you obey God by respecting your parents, He is pleased!

Other ways to please God are by enjoying all that He has created, by giving thanks to Him for everything, and by following Jesus’ example to love God and love others.

This week talk with your parents, how can you and your family please God? Think of someone you can love and help. Worship God at home or church. Read your Bible and strengthen your faith. Honor your parents and grandparents. Spend time in creation thanking God for all He has made.
