Our Awesome God and His Word!

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11 ESV

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105 ESV

Praising our awesome God for a beautiful sunrise and a brand new day!

This week we are looking at Psalm 119. A psalm is a song or hymn that worships God. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible and the longest Psalm. It has 176 verses! And although we don’t know who wrote this Psalm, it is all about how awesome God is and how wonderful all His words, laws, and commands are for us.

Both our verses are from Psalm 119. The first says that we can remember God’s words in our heart (memorize Bible verses) so that we don’t sin. And the second one tells us that God’s word is like a light leading us in the right direction.

Another interesting thing about Psalm 119 is that it is a special kind of poem. It is called an acrostic poem. The writer uses each letter of the Hebrew alphabet as the first letter in the lines of the poem.

I would like to write an acrostic poem for you using the letters in the word praise. Do you see praise spelled out in bold letters down the left hand side?

Praise God who placed the stars in the sky to brighten the night,

praise God who created each of you, beautiful in His sight.

Raise your voice and sing a song to the God who loves you,

remember all God’s blessings and that His promises are true.

Accept God’s love and salvation through Jesus, His Son.

and adoption into God’s amazing family as a daughter or a son.

Imagine the power of God who created the seas and the earth,

investigate God’s word and discover His grace and your worth.

Search for the beauty and wonder in the world God has created,

share God’s love and words with others so that He will be celebrated.

Eagerly read and study God’s word, learning and becoming wise,

encourage all your friends with kindness and they will do likewise.

This week I want to encourage you to write your own acrostic poem. It doesn’t have to rhyme. And you can choose whatever word you want, your name or your favorite sport or your favorite color or any word. Your parents can help. Have fun! I would love to read it when you finish!

Blessings and praise as we celebrate our awesome God and His wonderful words for us!
