Freedom to Love Like Jesus

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1 ESV

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve on another. Galatians 5:13 ESV

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 ESV

Some of God’s “fireworks” in the sunrise and sunset skies!

This week in the United States we celebrate the 4th of July. A holiday to remember when our ancestors declared our independence from Great Britain. The second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776. Declaring our separation, independence, and freedom from Great Britain’s rule. Do some quick math (your parents can help) – how many years ago was that? And every year we still celebrate it!

Americans celebrate the 4th of July by wearing red, white, and blue, attending parades, having backyard cookouts, and watching amazing fireworks at night! How will you and your family celebrate the 4th of July this year?

We do have freedom from British rule, but Americans also had to fight and die for it in the Revolutionary War.

The simple definition of freedom is “to have the right to do and say what you like.” But if we use Jesus as our example, freedom isn’t just being able to say and do what we like, it is the freedom to be like Jesus.

Our Bible verses for today tell us that our real freedom comes from Jesus. The Son of God came to earth as a man to die for you and me, and for all people who would believe on Him. Jesus has set us free. We are free to love other people like Jesus did. We are free to forgive people because Jesus forgives us. We are free to help others just like Jesus did. We are free to worship God and Jesus for all they’ve done for us. We are free from death because we have eternal life one day with Jesus in heaven.

This week enjoy your family celebrations of the 4th of July! But also take time to talk with your parents and decide how you can use your freedom to love like Jesus.

Blessings and freedom as you love like Jesus!

  1. The life that we live is in Christ. I think once we remember who is the author and finisher of our faith, our hearts warm to our neighbors.. and dare I say, even those that despiteful use us. We are actuated to love because of his love within us. Preach on sis Peggy. 👏👏🙏
