A Time of Refreshing

Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus. Acts 3:19-20 ESV

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. Jeremiah 31:25 NIV

My perfect place to be in God’s presence and enjoy a time of refreshing. Where is yours?

The world can be a harsh place. I think I could finish right there and simply say that from time to time we all need a bit of refreshing. Troubles, worries, to do lists, people, chores and the list goes on. But God gives us all a promise in Jeremiah that He, the LORD, will refresh us when we are weary and satisfy us when we are faint. Our verse from Acts tells us where that refreshing comes from; refreshing happens when we spend time in the presence of the Lord.

And for those of you who have followed me and know me, you already have an idea of where I like to spend time with the Lord and be refreshed…yes, in His amazing creation. There is joy and peace and calmness in God’s natural world. There is refreshing!

A Time of Refreshing

The water rushes down the uneven rock face,

Gurgling and splashing, pooling at the base.

The rhododendrons sway and dance in the breeze,

Maple, oak, and sourwood leaves flutter in the trees.

The flowing spring-fed water chills the surrounding air,

That swirls over and around the perfectly placed chair.

The birds chirp and sing to the waters’ rhythmic flow,

And peace surrounds as the sun’s light sets all aglow.

This week, take some time for refreshing. Find your perfect spot in God’s wonderful creation and pause, and absorb the beauty, and the quiet, and the peace, and rest in God’s presence. Take time to enjoy and feel and relax. Have a time of refreshing.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we spend time in God’s presence and delight in a time of refreshing.

Blessings and “refreshing” with the Lord!

  1. Ah, the waterfall! What a tranquil scene. I think I could sit there for hours and watch the water and the trees. This is a beautiful spot, Peggy, and a wonderful post and poetry. You’re fortunate to have access to such a special place. 😊

    • Thank you, Mike, for your kind comments and as always, your encouragement! I do feel blessed to be able to enjoy it. We haven’t had a very rainy spring so the water is a bit low but still very cold. It is one of my happy places!

Early morning at the beach, just as the sun is about to rise. Or a very early morning walk in the park. All of nature sings praises. It’s so rejuvenating to the soul. 🙏
