After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he answered. Genesis 22:1 CSB
Then I heard the voice of the Lord asking: Who will I send? Who will go for us? I said: Here I am. Send me. Isaiah 6:8 CSB

Did you ever hide or not answer when your mom or dad called you? Especially if you knew it was a chore. I have to admit, I did when I was a kid. When my mom called and I knew it was time to clean my room, I didn’t always answer. But, of course, she found me, and I still had to clean my room. I feel bad about it now, but I think we’ve all done it at some time.
Our verses for today are about two people in the Bible that answered God when He called with the words, “Here I am.” God called Abraham to be the father of God’s chosen people. First, He told Abraham to move to a new land. Abraham did. Abraham was 100 years old when God gave him and his wife, Sarah, a son, Isaac. The beginning of the Israelites.
In Isaiah’s time the Israelites were worshipping the false gods of the nations around them. And when they did come to the temple, they came without praise and worship, their hearts were far from God. God was asking who would go speak to His people about their sins. When God called, Isaiah answered with, “Here I am.” And, “Send me.”
Sometimes God or the Holy Spirit nudge us to do something. Maybe there’s a new kid in your class and no one is talking to her. And you feel sorry for her and wonder what you could do. You could do nothing and hope someone else speaks to her or you could answer God with, “Here I am,” and go and talk to her. You answered God’s call! Just like Abraham and Isaiah.
I answered God’s call when I started writing this blog about God and Jesus and His Word, the Bible.
This week talk to your parents about answering God’s call. Have they had a time when they answered His call? Think of some ways you have answered God’s call by doing what was right. The next time God calls you, you can answer with, “Here I am, Lord.”
Blessings and strength as you answer God’s call!
