Celebrate Your Dad on Father’s Day!

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7,13 ESV

“Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Ephesians 6:2-3 ESV

Our son, Seth, and his dad celebrating Father’s Day with the dogs at the pond.

Today is Father’s Day, the day we celebrate our dads. You can make your dad a card, or cook him breakfast (maybe get mom to help), or write him a story, or draw him a picture, or just give him lots of hugs to let him know how much you love him and appreciate him. Because your dad loves you endlessly.

Our first verse tells us all the things that love is. Our Dad’s shine God’s love for us!

Our second verse tells us that we also have something to do for our dads (and moms) every day. We are to honor (show respect, treat them as special and valuable, have a good attitude, and even do more than they expect). And Paul reminds us that this commandment from God in Exodus is the only one that comes with a promise, “that you may live long in the land.” God will honor you for honoring your dad (and mom).

Celebrate Dad!

Thank you for loving me for who I am, and who I can one day be.

Thank you for teaching me to play sports and how to play fairly.

Thank you for encouraging me to always do my very best.

Thank you for answering all my questions, even when I’m a “pest.”

Thank you for making me laugh with funny faces and silly dad jokes.

Thank you for letting me help you work on the car, then sharing cokes.

Thank you for lifting me up, carrying me on your shoulders, the best ride.

Thank you for reading me a bedtime story as you sit at my bedside.

Thank you for being my dad and teaching me what’s wrong and right.

Thank you for being my hero and my friend, always shining bright.

Today celebrate your dad! Maybe your brothers or sisters and your mom can help make it a special day for your very special dad!

Blessings and love celebrating your dad!

Special note:  If your dad was not around or wasn’t a loving father, remember that God is your Father, too. He created you and loves you and cares for you as His son or daughter. You can thank God for being your Father.

  1. A lovely message. I had 6 big brothers..all of em much older. Even today, they’re still father figures and men I respect. You’re right, once you get that personal relationship with God, he fills that void. We may say heavenly father..but God is and feels ever present. 🙏
